- Memories at School

When he used to walk in the street, he walked very fast with bold steps and so, some of his students called him ‘a military man’. All such nicknames were just gossiped among his beloved students in his absence.
Akhil Chandra Roy had a broad knowledge of the subjects (English literature, English and Bangla Grammar, History, Logic etc.) he taught to his pupils. He not only had lots of knowledge and skills, but also knew how to communicate them. He inspired awe in his abilities, too, convincing all of his students in the classroom that he was a wise master, worthy not only of their respect, but also the time and money they would invest in the endeavor.
He never gave a strong punishment to any student. His care in the classroom included them who were not very serious with their home-tasks. He encouraged them to challenge with their own potentiality and skills they had.

Ding-dong…ding-dong! Wearing a white Dhuti (a traditional dress in Bengali culture) and a long white shirt, a man is swiftly entering to a classroom with the uprising hands to his forehead. Students in the classroom are more silent than usual. Without delaying, the man started to talk to his students about the text and their homework」.

Yes, the person was Akhil Chandra Roy, or 'Akhil Sir', who was very punctual for his classes and sincere to his own responsibility throughout his life, and so loved and respected by his students always. Before entering to a classroom, he used to salute to his classroom. He might want to teach his students that ‘classroom is a sacred place to both the teacher and the students’. Because of his philosophic way of teaching, for example, while briefing the section (from the text) of ‘Wise men of the old’…, his students used to call him ‘Socrates’.

Some students called him ‘Socrates’, some ‘A Military Man’…

D. N. High School (Daraka Nath High School), where A. C. Roy worked for almost 30 years.

- Memories in his hometown

Were you an early riser and used to go out for a morning walk in Chandpur city…you’d see A. C. Roy everyday. But to follow him, you’d need to run. Because he used to walk fast and straight ahead with bold steps which exuded his personality too. Without any exaggeration, A.C. Roy’s everyday started at around 4:30a.m., and ended up at 10:30p.m. He was such a person who maintained a regular and punctual daily private life.

He never took a rickshaw-ride even when he had couple of heavy shopping bags in both of his hands.

A fresh-white clothed simple and well-figured gentleman walking toward his daily destinations was a common memory at the Chandpur city for Mr. Roy.
